Comparative Assessment of the Nutritional Fitness of Wild and Cultured African Catfish (Clarias gariepinus)

چکیده
The nutritional qualities of wild and cultured Clarias gariepinus from Oba Reservoir, Ikose, Ogbomoso, Oyo State, Nigeria, the fish Department Fisheries Aquaculture, State Ministry Agriculture Mineral Resources, were evaluated. proximate composition, mineral element composition essential amino acids profile sampled species evaluated using standard laboratory procedures. results was observed to be high in population compared Wild there a statistical significant difference amount crude protein, fibres, carbohydrate, fat/lipid, ash moisture contents across two populations (Wild; 17.94 ± 0.19, Cultured; 21.06 0.51), t = -5.738, p-value =0.001. content showed maximum copper (Cu), Lead (Pb), Manganese (Mn) Iron (Fe) than their counterpart while Cadmium (Cd) Nickel (Ni) undetected. It also discovered that all acid analysed found higher group wild. There varied levels correlations among measured populations. This study elemental profiles both fishes varies significantly proofed sample more nutritious population, therefore, good monitoring system Reservoir should encouraged with strict vigilance.

Histopathological Effects of Glyphosate on Juvenile African Catfish (Clarias gariepinus)
Most aquatic herbicides have undergone some toxicity testing for effects on non-target aquatic organisms, little of this testing has been conducted on early life stages of Clarias gariepinus. African catfish C. gariepinus were exposed to acute concentrations of glyphosate for 96hrs. The lethal concentration (LC ) 5O value of glyphosate was 0.295 mg l for 96h of exposure. The mean mortality perc...
متن کاملInduction of triploidy with caffeine treatment in the African catfish (Clarias gariepinus)
Induction of triploidy is one of the biotechnological methods in aquaculture used for genetic manipulation. It refers to a state where organisms have three complete sets of chromosomes instead of two and can result in sterility. Caffeine treatment that is safe and inexpensive, serve to induce triploidy in catfish. To suppress the second meiotic division, fertilized eggs were exposed to three di...

In order to estimate responses of growth rate and growth hormone of Clarias gariepinus to stocking density, fish (initial weight 30.71 ± 0.89 g) were stocked in 120-L tanks at densities of 35, 65, 95, and 125 kg/m3 for 60 days. On day 30 and 60, the fish growth rates were measured, pituitary growth hormone (GH) mRNA levels and serum GH concentrations were examined by real-time qPCR and ELISA te...
